Quadriceps Tendonitis

» Introduction :
The quadricep muscle group includes - Rectus femoris, Vastus intermedialis, Vastus lateralis, and Vastus medialis muscles. These muscles in front of the thigh connect to the top of the patella via the quadriceps tendon.

Quadriceps tendonitis is the inflammation and irritation of the quadriceps tendon. It is a result of overuse injuries towards the quads tendon because of activites like running, playing soccer or basketball.

» Clinical Features :
Pain from quadriceps tendonitis is felt in the area at the bottom of the thigh, just above the patella. The pain is most noticeable when knee is in motion. Swelling and stiffness around the knee is not very uncommon.

» Management :
  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Ultrasound therapy
